Why Indoor Air Quality Testing Matters

With the help of testing, we determine whether the concentration of the contaminants present in the air exceeds the maximum allowable concentration based on potential adverse effects on human health. We look for contaminants like gases, microorganisms, vapours, dust, smoke and other particulate matter.

These contaminants are either already present in the make-up air indoors or they have been introduced through several agents like building materials, furnishings, surface coatings, indoor activities, air treatment or air handling components.

During indoor air testing, we also look into the following factors – potential to induce infections or allergies, irritants, toxicity, objectionable odours and thermal conditions.

Although the main priority of testing is to ensure a safe and comfortable air quality for occupants, it is also done to follow regulation. Our indoor air quality assessment services ensure adherence to the following:

  • The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
  • the Health & Safety Executive (HSE EH 40/02 Occupational Exposure Limits & HSE EH 40/05 Workplace Exposure Limits)
  • the Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA) and the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992.

If necessary, we can also include additional parameters in our testing upon request. While conducting our assessment, we can also test for Ozone (unstable Oxygen, O3), Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and Total Dust Particulates.
